According to the findings of a new research, it has been established that conversations which have substance go a long way in making people happy. Matthias Mehl who teaches psychology at the University of Arizona believes that though small talk helps a great deal in smooth functioning of the society, it is those who have more meaningful conversation are the ones who are much happier.

The study was conducted on 79 men and women with the help of a portable device which is known as the electronically activated recorder. The device routinely recorded little parts of the conversation of these people as they carried out their daily work. The study was conducted for a period of four days.

The entire recordings were then classified as small talk or meaningful conversation. The tests were an evaluation of the personality and the well-being of the participants. Mehl and has team found out that the heights of well-being was higher in those who spent more time chatting with others. Those participants who were involved in substantive conversations were comparatively much happier.

The high percentage of men involved in serious discussions was also a little surprising as it is generally believed that women are the ones who are more into deep conversations. The study thus had an interesting conclusion as it showed that substantive conversation can increase the level of happiness among people. This is evident from the fact that you would always find lack of meaningful conversations in any troubled relationships. So although small talk can help you gel well with others, it is the meaningful conversations that would ensure that you are well and truly happy.

The finding of a recent study has revealed that religion can have a very profound influence in the life of an individual. It has been noted that people with religious beliefs are far more contended in their lives and have much better control over their lives compared to their counterparts. Religion can, at times, protect people from the shocks and disappointments of the daily lives. The people with religious beliefs are also at a lesser risk of suffering from psychological harms than the non-religious ones.

It has been observed that people with religious beliefs are much happier and seem to derive substantial psychological benefits in their lives. They have a sense of purpose in their lives which is not felt by the nonbelievers. There is also a school of thought which opines that religion can damage people, however, the findings compared with other studies indicate that religion has a positive effect which can be channelized by the individuals for their own good and also for the betterment of the society.

According to Terry Sanderson, who is a renowned UK secularist, there is absolutely no correlation between religion and happiness. He is of the opinion that happiness depends on the individual and to some extent to his genetic predispositions. A sound explanation about why people believe in God may satisfy the non-believers whereas a scientific documentation to prove that we are divinely designed to believe in the Almighty may satisfy the believers.

You must be aware that it takes years to bring about any change in your life as you keep waiting for that one fine day when your life would change for the good automatically. But there are a few steps which most certainly can change your life forever and you may consider giving them a try.

You can start with changing your attitude and mindset. This can be brought about by avoiding negative words and phrases with using positive ones. You will be amazed to see how people and the situation around you change instantly.

The next step would be to stop grumbling and count your blessings. You must make it a point to do an introspection of yourselves regularly and reflect on how fortunate you actually are. It includes your past experiences which have shaped up your personality and made who you are. You can make your life all the more exciting by jotting down things that you would love to do before you die.

Over your coming days, wake up every morning claiming it to be the best day ever in your life and try to maintain the same attitude the entire day. Try your hand on things which you personally thought you are not good at. This may be because you never had time for these things. You must become open to change as this is inevitable. Avoid getting upset if something falls out of your routine and keep you chin up for the next new days.

Every relationship has its share of conflicts which if handled properly certainly gives a boost to relationship. Conflict gives the chance to express your opinion as well listen to the facts which are on the other side of the book. However, inability to handle conflict can create havoc and definitely ruin your relationship. Thus, you should always try to resolve such issues before things go out of hand.

In a situation of conflict you should always try to give your partner full attention without really thinking who is at fault. You should patiently listen to your partner and verbally assure him/her that you recognize and can relate to his/her feelings. You should wait for the pain or anger to subside and listen to your partner attentively and try to create closeness and trust. By doing this, the pain and anger will surely go away without becoming a cause of resentment later.

You can continue waiting and listening patiently until the time you feel sure and certain that the phase of anger and pain has passed away from your partner. You can now put forward your views and expect to be listened in the same way by your partner.

When you feel that there is no more chance of a conflict, you and your partner can look back and talk about what had happened. Both of you should try to maintain a healthy discussion and make sure that you handle the situation in a better way next time. Although it requires a huge amount of patience and self control, the rewards would definitely encourage you to follow this process.

There is always a question in our mind as to how and when to find some quality time for our parents, spouse, friends and relatives without sacrificing on our career either. Balancing between your family, life and career is not a hard task. It is a challenge that you can overcome by simply following certain principles.

First of all, decide what is right for you. Prioritize your life first and then decide what is important for you. Start from your family first. Try to share your work problems with your family, which will definitely give you some mental peace and relief.

The main aim is to find time for your family and friends amidst work. Thus, if possible start working at home. This will certainly help you spend some quality time with your loved ones.

If you had a fight or a bad day at work, never take out your anger at home. This will help you maintain a pleasant atmosphere at home. However, you not forget to share your day with your family to get rid of your tensions.

The same is applicable in case you have a promotion at office. Never forget to share the same with your family.

Hence, you need to take into consideration the feelings of your family as well as your career goals, in order to have a balanced between life and career.

Reason is simple, because the choices we make in our daily life has a direct influence in our lives. The only trouble is to choose from the various options available for things that you need to choose. However, if one is clear enough in mind about what one wants, there won’t be any problem in choosing the right thing.

Take for instance, if we go to buy a pair of jeans, we would consider things like what kind of jeans fit us best and what is the latest fashion in jeans. Taking these factors in mind, the jeans we would choose would have a direct influence in our daily life. As if it is in sync with the fashion, then people will consider you up-to-date with the latest trends.

Not just in clothes, our choices in personal life, like choosing a life partner also have direct influence in our daily life. The decision or the choice we make today for a partner will remain with us till the end, so the choice is important so as not to repent later in life.

In our daily hectic schedule we often tend to forget that our body also needs rests and the best way to provide rest to the body is to know some ways of organizing our life. Here are some ways of organizing your life for that peaceful lifestyle.

Don’t let trivial matters become big to bother you. In other words, try to move on even if things appear bad to you. Just a little patience may help you save from cropping up unnecessary tensions.

Always keep a notepad handy to pen down things you aim to do on a day. This will help you jotting down your ideas and plans that you may forget otherwise. This is also an easy way of remembering appointments and meetings.

Try setting a time limit for each call you make or receive. Too much time on telephone also stresses. So, making a time limit for a call will solve much of your daily stress over phone calls.

At work, if you feel stressed out, try to ask for help from a colleague or subordinate. However, be sure to praise that person in lieu of help you get at work. This will help organizing your life and motivating the other person.

Whether you are in a long-term relationship or just got broke up, have you ever thought that your parents affect your love life? If yes, then how possible is this possibility of your parents affecting your love life? Read on to know whether you can really believe your parents can affect your love life.

Remember, the fact that as children, we have always looked up at our parents as our role models. If our parents had a bad relationship, then in many cases this goes forward in our relations as well because we tend to follow their habits and behaviors.

There are situations when a mother constantly complains about the father with her children without actually talking about the issues with the father. In such a situation, children too feel that it is fine to tolerate any kind of abuse from the partner and this is what they will practice in their love relationship and suffer.

Generally, a child sympathizes with the mother and in such a situation it becomes difficult for the child to understand someone else who is saying something contrary to the mother. Perhaps, this is one of those ways when parents can affect even a married love life of their children.

Dear Readers,

The number of views on my earlier two write ups is a proof that you people have liked what I wrote. People who know me call Love Doctor as I give valuable advice regarding love matters. In this write up of mine I am not taking side of women and I do not have any intention to hurt men. It is general behavior of men that I am pointing out. This behavior is seen usually in unmarried guys. Although I have not joined any group, I am a feminist by approach, so I treat men and women equal. However, here are some common things seen in men in their attitude towards women:

Treat him nicely; he thinks you are in love. If you do not, he thinks you show vanity.

You are Smarter; this makes him make Face. If he is Smarter, he says he is great.

Argue with him; he calls you obstinate. Stay quiet, you will be tagged brainless.

You say you don’t love him, he will do everything he can to make you admit you love him. If you say you love him, he says Good bye.

You say I want to marry you; he will say it is too early. He says I will marry you, even if you aren’t ready, he wants s-e-x.

Smoke in front of him and he says you are BAD. If he smokes he is a GENT.

Break a promise, he won’t trust you again. He breaks; he says I was forced to do so.
