Abraham Maslow proposed a theory which described that the behaviour of a human being is an outcome of his immediate needs. The theory was represented by a pyramid with basic needs at the lower level and the complex needs at the top of the hierarchy structure. At the top most of the pyramid is self actualization. It is described as the tendency of a person to become more of what he is. In case of a self actualized person, all his basic needs are already met and he just concentrates on his desire for self-fulfilment.
Self actualized people accept themselves and people around them as the way they are. They tend to enjoy whatever they do and live a guilt-free life. They are very realistic and are not afraid of trying out new things. Self actualized people are very ethical and responsible. They never miss a chance to help somebody and take special interest in solving real-world concerns.
A self actualized individual lives by the moment and appreciates the splendour of each experience. Although being in thick of things, self actualized people tend to love their privacy as it helps in finding out the inner potential and identifying the strengths and weaknesses. They have a very shuttle sense of humour and they laugh with others and not at others. They make sure that the humour does not hurt anybody’s feelings.
Apart from being very open and unconventional, self actualized people are free in their thoughts and actions and have concrete goals and these things are what, when put together set them apart from the rest.
