There are a number of instances when we just say ‘hi’ to people but then think who that was? There are many of us who just remember the face of the person but cannot recall the name. Don’t worry, it is not a disorder. Researchers say that there is something atypical about a name that makes it fiddly to evoke.
In a survey a number of people were given false names and memoirs to study and then were analyzed as to what they could recall. Here are the figures in percentage which they could remember. Jobs: 69%, Hobbies: 68%, Home towns: 62%, First names: 31% and Last names: 30%. So, you can see that the names get the least percentages. And with aging the process of remembering names even get worst. There are many theories and sciences that have been carried out. One result that came out is the common names.
Many of us have common names and those clashes in our memory and hence we aren’t able to recall the name. But oppositely there are some research studies which say that common names are easy to remember than the ones with atypical names. Many of us have names describing our own personality or nature or anything related to us. It is easy for us to remember these kinds of names. And hence one hoax to recall anybody’s name is to remember it by making some kind of alliance with that person’s behavior.
And after all these strive and struggle to remember the names still you forget somebody’s name that just recall Shakespeare’s well known saying:
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
