Harassment at workplace has become very common now days. It is any form of comments or conduct that is based on religion or sex which creates an uncomfortable and hostile environment for the employees making it hard for them to perform to their optimum level. Workplace harassments are also not reported as the victims feel that it may cause undue embarrassment.
As an employee, you should not be intimidated and must take the right steps so that you can deal with such a situation as and when it occurs. The most important thing about dealing with harassment is ascertaining the fact that the action that you are focusing on is indeed harassment. Ignoring these actions is not going to help you in anyway, so the best thing is to find out a solution to it as soon as possible.
You must ensure that the other person gets a fair knowledge of your discomfort by letting him know that you do not appreciate his actions. You must raise your voice against it if the actions continue; the reason being keeping quiet will only make you feel like a victim. You should have a good knowledge about the policies of your company on such matter and should make your concern known to the authorities.
You must document the provocation of your harasser and present it to your employer so that they are aware of what you are going through. This would certainly put an end to the harassment and if you feel the internal procedure has not been up to its task, you can always approach the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
