It is very essential for parents to communicate with their child when they are depressed. Although it may seem a little difficult to strike a conversation with a depressed child, it is very important for someone to break the ice and to find out the reason that has led to the depression. Parents who find it difficult can take the help of some close relatives whom the child trusts. Children should be allowed to say whatever is there in their minds.

It is very important for parents to listen to them without interrupting them and should be very careful in their response to what the child has to say. Parents can also ask questions to their children as to what are the reasons that are making them feel this way, however they must make sure that the questioning is not too intense and making your child feel that you have heard their plight is always very helpful. Parents must reassure their kids that their feelings would not last long and get better eventually. They should be shown and offered plans for change.

Making new friends, finding activities of interest and doing away with activities that cause unnecessary pressure would also go a long way in making your child feel better about them. Children should also be taught to express themselves. They should be admired for things that they are good at and should always be encouraged to do things that they enjoy doing and if parents still find that there is no improvement in how their child is feeling, it is best to seek professional help.

I used to compete in martial arts and before a fight, I'd feel so pumped up. For some reason, I felt all the more motivated when I drummed my left chest with my fist before the tourney. That got me all the more perked up. I would repeat the gesture
