How to find out what others think of you?

mind-reading What do others think of me? What and how they figure me to be? These are a few questions with which we care a lot to bother ourselves. Invariably, all of us keep on stressing our grey cells to find out the answers. But to the utter surprise of ourselves only, we cannot correctly make out what others think of us. Why is it so?

Recent researches on this aspect have revealed that the answer lies in the fact that we tend to ignore the perspective of others when we try to mark out how others figure us out. We think that others are paying much attention to us as we are to ourselves. This is called Attention Bias. But actually it is not. While judging ourselves, we tend to go more into the details regarding how we speak, body language, attitude, behavior etc. and believe that others are also noticing us with the same perspective.

But on the contrary they really do not. Also when the situations are ambiguous and our actions are arguable, then we tend to mould everything in to the cast of our own beliefs, intentions and attitude, and thereby miss out the vital points of how others make us out. This condition is called Construal Bias. Actually, we see ourselves from the street level i.e. with too many details and minute observation of our actions and behaviors.

On the contrary, others figure out from the satellite level, i.e. on a more holistic sense. Also people are faster to figure you out then you can imagine. People do not take too much time while making out at you, and they also judge you in a much wider sense than you anticipate. So if you want to find out what others think of you, see yourselves from the sky level.

Hello my dear readers! After our traditional calendar we will talk about our aims and goals.

Celia Elizabeth Green was born November 26, 1935She studied at Oxford, from which she received her B.A. (1957), M.A. (1960), and B. Litt. (1960). Founder and director of the Institute of Psychophysical Research, Oxford, England, founded in 1961 to undertake research in the field of parapsychology and in “hitherto unexplored areas.”

My dear friends, all of us probably have own big aim or at least dream. It is so big that its even hard to believe it one day will come true!
Just determine inside your mind – do you really want to achieve it? If yes –follow these recommendations:

First of all you have to understand that you aim is real and achievable. Nothing is impossible for human! Just remind all these stories about millionaires being homeless, about losers who believed in own power and spirit and became famous, successful persons!

Second step is to divide your big aim between few less and little sub-aims.
For example, if you want to run your own business but you don’t know in what field – give yourself some answers:

1. What do you like to do and what you can do better than others?

2. Decide, in which way this business can bring you money.

3. Research the market in this niche to determine if your services are   demanded.

4. Talk with experienced businessmen and read necessary books, Internet sources.

5. Calculate needed amount of initial capital to run your business.

6. Write “step-by-step” business plan and start to realize it.

And finally – remember, that to make your aim real you have to make first step. No talks. Just do it.  (I’ve heard somewhere last sentence))).
By the way – this is a slogan of very successful company. Is not it a good reason to follow?

I believe in you!

What our dreams mean? Part 2

Walter B. Cannon was born.

1871 — Walter B. Cannon was born.
His area of concentration was the physiology of emotion. Cannon’s theories, later elaborated by Philip Bard, were first thoroughly treated in Cannon’s book Bodily Changes in Pain, Hunger, Fear, and Rage (1915). Cannon was head of the Department of Physiology at Harvard University from 1906 to 1940.

1891 — Lois Meek Stolz was born.
Stoltz was a developmental psychologist interested in early childhood education. She was a founder and first president of the National Association for Nursery Education (1929). At the time, there were only 80 nursery schools in the United States. She later helped to establish the Oakland Growth Study and developed indexes of adolescent growth.

Why do we see dreams instead having black empty space inside of mind during sleeping?
So, all of us have different unconscious desires, which strive to become conscious to penetrate into our consciousness. Of course, our consciousness resist their appearance (e.g. caz they do not met your own imagination about yourself) and trying to push them back to subconsciousness.

Subconsciousness doesn’t want to know about them! No! No! No!
No hidden desires! Nothing about sexual perversion! Nothing about your children’s complex etc.

But! Desires exist. Somewhere in the depth of your mind and always searching for exit. So your sleeping time is the best time when your consciousness is loosing its control.
But everything is not so simple for them even when consciousness is sleeping.

Desires cannot afford to themselves appear in a direct way.
Therefore they appear as a hints, strange images, analogies which can be quite easily deciphered by you.

I’ll tell you about technique of dreams deciphering in my next post!

Strangeness of perception

Hello my dear readers. This day, 18th of October, was born American psychologist Mamie Phipps Clark.

Mamie Phipps Clark

She was known and awarded for her reseach of afro-american’s children self-determination and their social self-identification.

Today I will tell you about my experience with own perception.

One day I took a taxi to come to my office which is not actually so far from my home. When we crossing downtown we trapped in a small jar and I had nothing to do except looking through the car window.

Suddenly, right across the road I’ve noticed a man who was staying near the tree. He was talking to himself quite loud and gesticulated very aggressively. He swung his arms to one side and another keeping talk to himself.

IT was very sad for me to see him.

He was obviously mad and sick and didn’t understand what he does.

Looking on him I started to think about unfairness of our life and that man who probably has a very kind personality… but he was mad…so pity…so unfair I remember I’ve even drop a tear

Two minutes later my taxi started to move and! I’ve seen a WOMAN right behind a tree with a MAP in her hands…could you imagine?

She just asked him to show the way! That’s why he gesticulated and talked!… You know, probably I have never laughed so long ))))

Dear readers, since now, you will see a psychological calendar of essential events before each topical post. This will let you be in line with history of psychology as well as to share this information with friends.
So, today, 13th of October, Albert Michotte van den Berck was born to become a well-known for it’s research of human’s visual and tactile perception.

Albert Michotte van den Berck

Well, have you ever seen a consious (lucid) dreams? Have you ever tried to achieve it?
Personally I had conscious dreams twice in my life. I dreamed that I am in captivity with terrorists and it was u unbelievably terrible and scare. Suddenly, I understood that I am dreaming (it was very exciting feeling caz you can do whatever you wish, like being in virtual reality!!). I took tommy gun and started to fire! I understood that they are not able to kill me as soon I am sleeping) really cool but unfortunately I dont remember a second one but anyway, in order to control your dreams you need exercise very very regularly (at least 45 minutes a day).

Kastaneda wrote a lot about techniques of dreams control where it noticed that lucid dreams up to the regularity of trainings and degree of imagination, but essential steps to get a conscious dream are:

  1. Before go to sleep lie without falling a sleep at least 20–30 minutes
  2. Turn off the light and keep trying to visualise different images (any) to activate some memory zones
  3. Don’t move and breath deeply as a sleeping man
  4. Repeat exercise early morning.

If you do have such an experience, please write me what have you seen and how did you do this!

Meaning of dreams part 1

On the point of psychology science, dreams are an additional product of our subconsciousness. In this manner it works when you are sleeping.
Your tired and full of impressions mind is relaxing and poor subconsciousness is trying to digest all these images, thoughts which you have taken during a day.

In its turn, through dreams subconsciousness is trying to say you something useful, essential and bossibly awful to you…Awful – because sometime you think about very bad things which is absolutely not in line with your principles and values. But nobody could restrict you from thinking, even own mind.

Do you remember that nights when you have been suddenly awoke by something you have seen in dream? These cases are most interesting and important because you open eyes in the middle of the night only if consciousness has understood what subconsciousness is saying by mysterious images. I always note all my dreams when I awoke after it. Why?

Because this is a real notice or advice from your own subconsciousness which is in times more clever then your mind.
Next part is about images of dreams and their meaning for you.

Two sides of our mind

Mind   Do you know that each of us has two persons inside our mind? That’s true.

One of them – is a big dreamer and visionary.
His global aim is to dream, to imagine your future, to think that it is impossible to earn a million dollars…

The other “guy” is a “prover”. He will prove ANYTHING what first one has dreamed.
If first guy think that all blond girls are silly – I’ll prove it. In any blonde girl I will see and identify only stupid doll.

Ok, if you think that it is impossible to earn a million – I’LL PROVE THAT AS WELL! You will never earn it.
Like this: “hey, just look that almost every multi millionaires are either criminals or movie stars. I cannot be movie star and I don’t want to do something illegal.

So it is impossible to earn a million”. And you do nothing having pure conscience. )

But if your first guy thinks that it is real to earn or to reach something – second one will prove it with the same passion.
Everything you wish. I am talking on based my own experience. Think about it and ask me in case you feel a need.

You have what you deserve.

Why do we have what we have?

Let me prove you that what you do have now in your life is exactly that you do really deserve or want to have. It is convenient for you to have it, otherwise you might do something with it, but you don’t. You say – “it’s all the circumstances and I depend of it”… it is sad to hear.

Some of my friends, from time to time, complain to their life or work or salary etc… And they seem offended when I am telling that they just do not want to live in a better way. Feel the difference, – not “cannot” but “don’t want” instead. For example, one of my colleagues (she is a sales manager) said me last week that it is impossible to realize sales plan till the end of month. She said – THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. (How often do you say the same?)

I told he “listen, just imagine that lives of your parents directly depend of this plan realization”

Will you find a ways to sell all u need even more till the end of the month?

She said “I guess I’ll find a lot of ways in few minutes how to sell all this”. But few minutes ago she was trying to convince me that it’s impossible!

You see? If you say “I cannot” it is equal to “I don’t want”. If you know your own examples – put it here, in comments and I am sure it will help someone to review his possibilities.

Just think about it.

Ksena.
